Late scores push Patrick Henry to CIF D4 title
Patrick Henry’s stars led their team to a 25-20 win over Mt. Carmel in the Division 4 title game.
“To see this group’s growth, it’s amazing. I am really proud of them,” said Patrick Henry coach Alona Harper.
Senior captain Ayla-Grace Collins hauled in two touchdown passes on the afternoon, including what proved to be the game winner on a fourth and goal from the Mt. Carmel one yard line to put the Patriots ahead 25-13 with 1:38 to play.
Ayla was also named one of the San Diego Union-Tribune’s Athletes of the Week!
“Before that play I told Lexi (Raymond) I am going to be in that far corner,” said Patrick Henry’s Ayla-Grace Collins, “We knew that touchdown was going to seal the win. The whole team did a great job of staying composed.”
Patrick Henry’s young guns also showed up in a big way. Olive Murillo scored twice, the latter of which was a 50-yard punt return touchdown.
“Olive plays like she’s been there before. She does everything we ask of her. She’s very coachable.” Harper said.
